I have made this juice several times and have actually doubled the recipe.
6 carrots
4 apples
Ginger approx 1 inch or more to taste.
I have definitely gone through a lot of apples and carrots lately.
Verdict: This stuff is amazing and I have been drinking it every morning!!
And my little princess even tried it. She said "mmm yummy" but then didn't want anymore. :)

Green juice
Ok, I am going to start to get a little healthier by adding some more vegetables into my diet. So today I have made a few juices. The first one was a green juice recipe. Here is the link for this recipe (http://www.fitsugar.com/Green-Detox-Juice-Recipe-21173645).
Here are the ingredients:
1/2 bunch of spinach
1 handful watercress
1/2 lemon (peeled)
1 celery stalk
2 apples
1 inch slice of ginger.
I actually upped the celery to 2 stalks and I didn't have watercress. Now I'm not sure what 1/2 a bunch is because I only had bagged spinach so I shoved a bunch into the juicer. I used a granny smith apple and a red delicious since that is what I had on hand.
Verdict: It was tasty!! I will make this one again for sure. Might actually make it for work tomorrow.
Update: If making for drinking the next day only add one stalk of celery as it became a bit more powerful overnight. Still good but I could really taste that second stalk.

Homemade fabric softener using conditioner
So today I made fabric softener using conditioner. I bought V05 (Shea Cashmere scent) from our local Shoprite for .77 cents! The vinegar was less than $2 for a gallon also. So this was super cheap to make but let's see how it works when I run it through the washer.
Here is the recipe that I used:
6 cups water
3 cups white vinegar
2 cups hair conditioner : 1 (16 oz) bottle
Directions:
1. Mix water, vinegar, and hair conditioner in a 1 gallon container; stir. Do not shake it; it will cause foaming. Heat in microwave for about 1 minute and wisk. Will mix easier.
2 Put in a 1 gallon container.
3 Use the same amount you normally use in a rinse cycle or spritz it on a wash cloth and throw in dryer.
Most of the blogs and websites had the same recipe. Some say to heat the conditioner and vinegar in the microwave for a minute for easier mixing. Here are two of the websites that I used:

Some of the websites also cut the recipe in half as well.
Can't wait to try this out!!

Homemade Liquid Laundry Soap 1 and 5 gallon
I just found this recipe on http://spiltmilkandcoloredwalls.blogspot.com. I can't wait to try it since you can make 1 gallon rather than making a huge 5 gallon batch. I have some other recipes posted on my Pinterest page as well. http://pinterest.com/shafs3/
I have tried making my own fabric softener out of vinegar, baking soda and water. Easy enough and the clothes smell clean but not scented. It also seems to get rid of the extra soap residues in the machine.
So here is the recipe for homemade liquid laundry soap:
To make just 1 gallon:
1 cup hot tap water
1.5 oz grated bar soap
1/4 cup Arm & Hammer Washing Soda
1/4 cup 20 Mule Team Borax
Add the grated soap to the hot water in a saucepan. Stir it over med-low heat until melted. Add washing soda and borax and stir until dissolved. Fill a 1 gallon jug half way with hot tap water. Add the soap mixture. Shake it up and then fill to the top with more tap water. Let it sit overnight to thicken. Shake before each use.
1 gallon = 128 oz = 16 cups = 32 half cups (extra-large top loader) = 64 1/4 cup (recommended top loader) = 128 1/8 cup (front loader)!
To make 5 gallons:
4 cups hot tap water
5.5 ounces grated bar soap (save your slivers for this)
1 cup Arm & Hammer Washing Soda (not Baking Soda)
1 cup 20 Mule Team Borax
Add the grated soap to the hot water in a saucepan. Stir it over med-low heat until melted. Add washing soda and borax and stir until dissolved.
Fill a 5 gallon bucket half full with hot tap water. Pour in the soap mixture and stir with a whisk, immersion blender, or paint stirrer drill attachment. Add more hot tap water and stir again. Cover the bucket and let it sit overnight to thicken. Transfer to gallon jugs and shake before each use.
5 gallons = 640 oz = 80 cups = 160 half cups (extra large top loader) = 320 1/4 cup (reg top loader) = 640 1/8 cup (front loader)

The money pit
We bought our house 2 years ago and everything should have been fine. There was a house inspection, although we didn't do it, another potential buyer paid for it and then their contract fell through. I regret not doing one ourselves but would it have changed anything? The inspection said everything was fine and a few things were fixed.
After we moved in things started to go wrong! The day we signed the paperwork, Jason and I were enjoying the deck. We were outside when a neighbor asked us if we knew where some water was coming from that was flooding their backyard. We said we had no idea but it couldn't be from us. I looked over the rail and wouldn't you know there was a flow of water running from under the house. I am sure the previous owner knew of this issue as they had a hose laying in the front bushes that looked like it hadn't been used in years. Also, someone had to turn the water on before we moved in. I'm sure they did it to pretend they didn't know anything about it. So now we have no outside water. =(
We called the insurance company that we bought and they sent someone out. They couldn't do anything so we paid the guy $60 for nothing. He said to fix the issue we would have to start drilling into the concrete slab the house was sitting on. Well, that will have to wait until we win the lotto I suppose.
That year we had awful rain here in Maryland. We started to notice that one of the windows was leaking when it rained hard. The french doors in the family room also started to leak from underneath the bottom. How did the home inspection not catch this stuff?? We later had several contractors come out and they all agreed that the windows were installed incorrectly. The previous dummies had bought some crappy window from the store, then put wood slabs around the window to make them fit. They never caulked or anything around the windows after they installed them. So all of our windows would eventually leak.
The bathroom shower also had a leak that went unnoticed by the home inspection. We noticed that after every shower the floor was getting wet and ruining the wood baseboards. Could anything else go wrong?? We had someone come out and regrout and rehang the shower door. Still leaked. We then put all kinds of tape and plastic in the shower thinking we had a hole in the bottom of the stall, still leaked. So after all that, we determined it was the caulk. We needed a high grade caulk that would flex and bend when the shower was in use. Problem fixed for the time. We will eventually need to change the grout so we will be in the same boat soon.
Let's see....soon after that the other main shower door started to leak. They of course, had installed the shower door incorrectly. It was just running from the end right onto the floor. We ordered a new door online, wow what a chore to find one that was the same size, they don't seem to make them that small! Jason was able to install a new door in the end and we now have a functional shower again!
We had an attic fan installed soon after we moved in. That helped a lot with the upstairs getting too hot in the summer. The day after we had that fan installed we started to smell a sewer smell. We called the company to see if they interfered with the bathroom exhaust and they thought maybe it was an issue with the seal on the toilet since we only smelled it from the 1/2 bathroom. So now we have an issue with the toilet. Jason would later rip up the toilet only to find that they installed the wax ring incorrectly. It wasn't properly sealed.
We also had a ceiling fan installed in Lena's bedroom because her room gets so hot for some reason. It just seems to be the hottest spot in the entire house.
So soon after all the above issues our ceiling fan also crapped out on us. Now we need a new ceiling fan in the master bedroom! Wow, Jason has had his work cut out for him, he has learned how to fix just about everything!
What else could go wrong you ask, let's see... One day while I was cleaning the bedroom bathroom sink, I dislodged the putty that they had holding the drain in. Now the water was leaking out of the sink and onto the floor. Why would someone ever put putty into a drain in the first place? It appeared that they were trying to put some sort of drain in but there were holes on both sides of the drain which they just filled with putty instead of buying the correct drain. So off to Home Depot we went again! We bought a real drain and installed it, no putty needed! wow. So after a couple months we realized that we didn't buy the correct drain and it didn't have the hole for the overflow drain. So back to Home Depot and we bought the right drain! Still didn't have to use any putty.
A few months ago, we had a slow leak in the master bathroom toilet and decided to fix it. Jason bought the new parts and fixed it right up. A few days later I looked up at the kitchen ceiling and noticed a dark stain. The bathroom toilet was leaking! So once again, Jason ripped up the toilet to find that the wax ring hadn't been installed correctly. Due to the problem we had it wasn't noticed because the toilet never flushed properly. Now that it was flushing right it was leaking all over the ceiling. Ugh. Why did the previous people try to fix things when they absolutely had no idea what they were doing. Oh and when Jason was fixing the toilet the tank started to leak. Now back to Home Depot for a new toilet tank!
And how did I ever forget to mention the awful front door??? The door was made out of metal and we get direct sunlight in the morning. The door would get flaming hot and swell and shrink with the weather. One day I was on my way out for work and I couldn't get the door to shut! Jason had to take the middle hinge off for the door to shut. It has acted up several times since then too!
I think I just about have it all now. One more thing that has crapped out on us was the light in the hall closet. All of a sudden it stopped working and we had to buy a whole new fixture and replace the old one.
Oh wait. I just remembered, all of the closet doors are also installed incorrectly in this place. The kitchen closet door was broken and would swing wildly around. Thanks to Tigger throwing her fat body up against the door, she broke the wood and we had to install a new door. The hall closet door track also went bad (?) and the door fell off the track and we couldn't open it anymore! How does that happen??
So, did I get everything? Let's review:
1. New doors (front and deck)
2. New windows
3. New drain in bedroom bathroom
4. New grout and caulk in bedroom bathroom
5. New master bedroom ceiling fan
6. New bedroom ceiling fan
7. Attic fan
8. New wax ring in 1/2 bath
9. New wax ring in master bath
10. New shower door in master bath
11. New toilet tank in master bath
12. New lightbox in downstairs closet
13. New bifold door and track in kitchen
14. New hall closet track
15. Still broken - no outside water!
We should have taken before and after photos of everything. Maybe we should call Holmes on Homes.
Wow, when you list it all out like that.....what a money pit!! I definitely got ripped off.
Oh, we would be happy to take donations for the outside water if you have some extra. ;)

Big girl bed
So the time has come and we have switched Lena to her big girl bed. Her crib actually turns from a crib into a day bed then into a full size bed when she is a little older.
We switched the bed a few days ago and so far it is going really well. The first day she played and played with her new bed. She got in and then out and then in and then out again and again. That day she had a harder time getting to sleep for her nap but she eventually did. Getting to sleep at night went great. She was read a book by daddy and then asked for a kiss then went right to sleep. The next morning she woke up and knocked on her door to let us know she was ready to get up. What a cutie! The morning after that she woke up and yelled "daddy" to let us know she was ready.
She isn't ready for potty training just yet but at least this part will be taken care of when she is ready!

Birthday
Lena's birthday was on May 15th and she turned 2! I thought and thought about what I was going to make her for a cake. She really likes the bubble guppies but they don't have party supplies in bubble guppies yet. So I did an Elmo and Sesame Street theme. I made an Elmo chocolate cake and Elmo yellow cupcakes. They looked great!
Jeni and Patrick came over for Lena's birthday. Lena took a late nap that day so she was sleeping when the Gabella's arrived. She woke up soon after and had a meltdown at seeing new people over. We ate outside and Lena clung to me like a little monkey. She warmed up pretty quickly and was playing ball with Jeni in about 1/2 hour. We decided to eat our cake and cupcakes later and sang the Happy Birthday song which brought on a new round of tears. I tried to hold the candle over to Lena to blow it out but dripped wax on her leg. She now is afraid of the candles. Bad mommy!
After eating we went inside and opened up her present. We got her a Princess vanity with a keyboard. She loved it. She played and played until she went to bed.
It was a great birthday (aside from the wax on the leg). Lena knew exactly who was on the cake and cupcakes which was great! She loved the party!

My little parrot
Lena has started talking a lot more lately. She has just been a little chatterbox. Most you can't understand but every once in awhile you get a few words that make sense. She has been saying "outside" "boots (after Dora)" some colors, "yes" sounds more like "des" and even said "doctor" to Jason. I think she has said "that sucks" but I am not sure. Oh and she can say "blue" and point to the balls on the tree and say "ball." I am so proud of her. She has been putting her hands on her head and waits for you to say head, then she grabs her belly and waits for you to say belly. Then she goes back to head and belly.
She has also been saying "up" and then stands up. She tries to say "down" but it doesn't sound like down. She will get up and say up and then sits down and waits for you to say down for her. She is so cute!
She thinks that the laughing doll baby gram got her is hysterical. She loves when you squeeze it and she laughs and laughs. She is afraid of a bunch of toys she has but maybe she will like them later. She doesn't like the tickle me elmo and she doesn't like the singing giggling reindeer I have for christmas. I think that was one of those hallmark things. He is really cute though, like a stuffed animal, she just hates him.
She likes a variety of foods. She tries a lot too and if she doesn't I will rub it on her lips. If she gets a taste sometimes she changes her mind. She has even been eating kidney beans! The first bean went in and then right back out a little chewed up.
What else has my little Princess been up to lately? She is still going to my gym. She has gotten a little better with playing with other kids. She is really interested in what others are doing now. Lena also loves that little sibling room at the gym. I think she likes that better than the actual gym sometimes!
She still loves to run around the house with the little pink bucket on her head. She thinks it is funny to put it on my head and then take it back off just to put it on again!
Lena has about 12 teeth now I think. She doesn't let us look in there very often but I know she has the molars and the front 4 teeth on top and bottom. I think she is getting something else in too because she has been drooling up a storm lately and not eating.
Lena also loves to put things into places now. For example, at bath time, she puts all her lotions and shampoos into the hamper. Then she puts the basket into the hamper too. This is every night and then I get them out and she does it again! In her bedroom, she enjoys taking all her socks and putting them in random places like the trash can, on top of the air purifier, in other drawers, in other rooms in drawers, or pushing them through the gate at the top of the stairs. During the day she takes her toys from the living room and puts them all around the house.
This year I don't think Lena will be visiting Santa at the mall. We made a trial run and she was scared to death of Santa. We also got a visit from Santa around our development with lights and sirens blaring on the back of the fire truck. Lena was scared to death of all the noise.
Someone's hair is finally growing in too. I still can't tell though what color it actually is! It could be dirty blonde, it could be light brown, but it also could be a red color. **sigh**

Mwah!
Oh my sweet little girl blew her first kiss to me tonight. She put her little hand up to her mouth and went "bwah." It was so sweet and she was so proud of herself.
She's a little under the weather today with a stuffy nose and a bit of a cough. I think she probably caught something at my gym.

One and a half!
Where has the time gone, the Princess is now 1.5 years old! I can't believe it. The terrible twos are approaching but I think she has already achieved that status at 1.5. I think her high pitched scream has reached a new level, ultrasonic. So what has Lena been up to lately? Well, a lot of screaming and crying and still more screaming and crying. She must be getting another tooth in, she is constantly sticking her fingers in her mouth, tugging on her ears, crying and not eating. We are still going to My Gym and she still hates class days. She started patting other kids on the heads like they are puppies.
She has also picked up a new habit, I just noticed it today. She has been putting her little fist up to her chin and then she says "hmmmm." I wonder if she learned that from her daddy? She has been really talking a lot too lately. Most of it we can't understand but I think she is really listening to every word we say. We were out for a walk the other day and it was nice so we had her in a t-shirt. As it was getting a little later, she walked over and picked up her jacket and said "on." She still hasn't figured out how to say "yes" so everything gets answered with a "no" or a head shake.
She still loves her little tent, the princess chair and the hippo chair. She plays with these things every day. She still loves her Bubble Guppies also. Tigger and Cleo are still scared of her but she would love to just squeeze them. Of course she is still Daddy's girl, she just crawls all over Jason when he is around, literally. If he is sitting on the floor her little tushy is right there, climbing on him, hugging him, kissing him, dragging toys over to him. It is so cute! Her eyes just light up when she sees her daddy.
Still can't get little girl to eat any kind of pasta, with or without sauce or butter. Who knew? I thought all kids liked pasta. She is also not a meat eater just like her mommy and she could eat cereal for every meal!
Tomorrow is Lena's doctor appt for her 18 month check up. I can't wait to see how much she weighs and if she has grown. The 18 month pants are still too long for her and she is getting thinner now. She is a girl on the go, no time to sit still for anything (not even sleep some days).
Ok, pics to come later when I download them.
